Sometimes it’s easy to think that once you’ve chosen a career, you’re locked in it for life.
That’s not true for Jin Baines, who swapped a call centre, 9 to 5 job for the open road as she joined Hargreaves Logistics as a Tipper Driver. And she hasn’t looked back since.
“I absolutely love it.” said Jin. “I’ve been to so many places since I’ve started driving which I wouldn’t have gone to if I wasn’t driving, so I love it.”
After joining Hargreaves, Jin found the entire team incredibly welcoming and has been supported every step of the way with her transition into the logistics industry.
“The lads here are brilliant.” said Jin. “You can pick up the phone and ask them for help – someone’s always willing to have a bit crack with you, asking where you’re going, what you’re doing, do you know where you’re going to? People are really, really helpful, they don’t discriminate or go ‘oh, she’s a woman’ or anything like that, I’ve not found any problems with it and I think it’s a really nice industry to work in.”
When we asked Jin what her favourite thing about her job was, she couldn’t put a pin on one specific thing she finds so enjoyable.
“I just love the job as a whole.” she said. “I love driving, I love the tipping. It’s just a different experience from doing a 9 to 5 job in a call centre or in an office. It’s just the freedom I think and so really, I like all of the job!”
